Beginners Start Here

If you're new to yo-yo or looking to buy a yo-yo as a gift for a beginner - then the choice can be quite overwhelming! So we have written an ever evolving guide that we hope will give you some insight into what we feel makes a great beginner yo-yo, and help you choose the right one.

Please also know that you are welcome to message us any time if you have any questions that aren't covered here, or would like additional recommendations.

Firstly we need to cover a VERY important topic before you start looking into your first yo-yo.....

What are Responsive and Unresponsive Yo-Yos?

Traditional yo-yos come back to the hand with a tug after being thrown - this is what is referred to as a Responsive yo-yo. Responsive yo-yos are what you need when first learning, there's nothing more frustrating then throwing a yo-yo and being unable to get it back to your hand!

Unresponsive yo-yos don't come back to the hand with a simple tug - instead you need to perform a trick referred to as a Bind just to get the yo-yo to come back. Unresponsive yo-yos spin a lot longer than responsive yo-yos (due to the fact they have larger bearings, wider string gaps and less friction acting on the string itself) and are PERFECT for when you're learning advanced tricks! But are not so fun for beginners.

If you are brand new to yo-yoing, you will want to make sure that the yo-yo you get is RESPONSIVE.

Which RESPONSIVE Yo-Yo is the BEST to start out with?

The best way we can answer this is by breaking this down into age ranges. As you can see, we sell many beginner yo-yos and they will all help you on your way to mastering the basics. However we wanted to highlight our absolute FAVOURITE ones in case you're stuck!
